Septic System Design

A good septic system is key for effective wastewater treatment, protecting the environment, and ensuring lasting reliability. At Onsite Solutions, we create custom septic designs that follow your local regulations and fit your property's specific needs.

What Goes Into Septic System Design?

Septic system design is more than just placing a tank and drain field—it’s a carefully planned process that considers multiple factors to ensure proper function and longevity. Here’s what goes into it:

1. Site Evaluation

Before designing a septic system, a thorough site evaluation is conducted to assess:
✔  Soil composition & percolation rates – Determines how well the soil absorbs and filters wastewater.
✔  Topography & drainage – Identifies slopes, water tables, and flood risks.
✔  Space availability – Ensures proper placement of the septic tank and drain field.

2. Soil Testing

Soil testing is a crucial part of septic design, as different soil types affect the system's performance.

3. System Type Selection

Based on site conditions, different septic system types may be used, such as:
🔹 In-ground Septic Systems – Ideal for properties with well-draining soil.
🔹 Mound Systems – Used when soil conditions require a raised drain field.
🔹 Pressure Distribution Systems – Ensures even wastewater dispersal in challenging terrains.

4. Regulatory Compliance

Every septic system must comply with local and state regulations. Our team ensures your system meets all compliance requirements, setback distances, and environmental standards. We guarantee that all final designs meet permit requirements*.

Why Proper Septic Design Matters

A properly designed system:  Protects Groundwater & Environment and ensures wastewater is treated effectively to prevent pollution.

  • Why would I need a new septic design?
You would need a septic system design in the following common situations, : Building a New Home or Business – If your property is not connected to a municipal sewer system, you’ll need a septic system designed to handle wastewater properly. Replacing a Non-Compliant Septic System – If your current system is malfunctioning, has been issued a notice of non-compliance or beyond repair, a new design is required before installation. Buying or Selling a Property – Some counties and mortgage companies require a compliance inspection when selling your property, and if the system doesn’t meet current standards, a new design may be needed.
  • Can I choose where on my property put my septic system?
Yes, you can have input on where your septic system is placed, but the final location must meet regulatory requirements and be suitable based on soil conditions, water table levels, and property layout. A site evaluation and soil testing will determine the best placement for efficiency, longevity, and compliance with local codes. Our team at Onsite Solutions Inc. will work with you to find the best possible location that meets both your preferences and legal requirements.
  • Do I have to have a mound?
Whether you need a mound septic system depends on several factors, including soil conditions, water table levels, and local regulations. Mound systems are typically required when: The soil doesn’t drain well (e.g., heavy clay or shallow bedrock). The water table is too high, meaning wastewater could contaminate groundwater. There’s not enough space for a traditional drain field. Local codes mandate it for environmental protection. A soil test and site evaluation will determine the best system for your property. If a mound system is required, it ensures wastewater is properly treated before reaching groundwater. If not, you may have other options like an in-ground system.
